Weed Man Lexington Plants 50 Trees outside Local Food Pantry
On Saturday, May 17, a team of volunteers from Weed Man Lexington put in a hard day’s work to plant 50 trees—a “micro-forest”—on the property of God’s Pantry Food Bank, an organization dedicated to reducing hunger by working together to feed Kentucky communities. The Weed Man team was 38 people strong, including employees, friends, and family! For this great “Lex Grow Trees” event, Weed Man partnered with Trees Lexington, a non-profit that empowers community members to dig into the fun and fulfilling work of expanding and maintaining our local tree canopy—an effort which improves the health of our citizens and preserves the character of our city. “It was a fantastic way to give back to the community we love,” says executive assistant Janette Barrington. Trees and green spaces (like residential lawns) provide essential ecosystem services, like producing oxygen, capturing carbon, and filtering stormwater. This means that by caring for lawns, trees, and shrubs, we can majorly give back to the environment around our homes and communities! Everyone at Weed Man Lexington is extremely proud to support the work of Trees Lexington and God’s Pantry Food Bank!
